Description Pattern: Uneven Nine-Patch or Puss in the Corner

Fabrics: Prints, predominantely blue and brown with white background.

Backing: White cotton

Set: 45 pieced blocks, every other block plain. Top row 4 pieced, Lemoyne Stars in the 4 corners.

Border: Single plain white border

Binding: Straight grain, woven tape

Technique: Hand-pieced and hand-quilted

Batting: Medium thick, probably cotton

Quilting: Straight lines, oak leaves, tulips and wreaths, double and triple lines
Date 1856 ca.
Provenance Inked signature inscription "Rebecca Clifton Hampton's Work" appliqued on. Hampton was born 1844 and died in 1857 at 13. The family were Quakers (since 1796 according to the family bible) and lived in Quakertown, NJ. Rebecca Clifton Hampton was the donor's grandfather's sister.
